I posted a question in the group questions, and I am seriously looking for anyone who can offer guidance as to the best source of information on beginning a meditation practice.
I've decided that finding peace within is the only way there will ever be a moment's peace in my life. Let's be real. How much outward peace can there be for a mother of boys who live with combinations of bipolar disorder, autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy and medical issues...plus the 'normal' issues of life.
So, if you can recommend books, online resources or have personal words of wisdom and/or encouragement...please, share them with me and the entire Buzz community.
I know my goal...I understand the concept, the basics of 'how to'...but I really want some inspirational guidance.
Is anyone else here looking for a similar path of peace?

I do a form of Buddhist meditation called Zazen. It's not an easy practice (it took me a year to really *get* it but it was beneficial before that) but well worth it. Zazen on Wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zazen Instructions - http://www.mro.org/zmm/teachings/meditation.php

Hi Melody, as I said last time, this is a path I'm walking too and I may have discovered something that could just help! My therapist recommended a cd of guided meditations for busy people. Each one is about 8 mins long and are narrated by a man with a charming soft scottish accent. No music, just talking. I've found them really helpful and you can get hold of it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Guided-Meditations-Busy-People-Bodhipaksa/dp/0972441433/ref=sr_1_1/203-6799469-0622350?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1194339340&sr=8-1 Hope that's useful? I have no wisdom on this, as I do not face these issues with my girls. I do know that as I struggle with things like estrangement from my stepfather and workplace frustrations acupuncture has been an incredible source of grounding and centering. Truly the only time that I can just stop and allow healing, or simply resting to happen.

I've been wondering about this path as well. I hope more people comment here, because I'd love to know.

Melody, I so understand where you're coming from. My children have ADHD, ASD, Semantic Pragmatic Language Disorder, and moderate learning difficulties between them (as well as a pile of Dys's) so perhaps it's not surprising that I've just started trying to walk the meditation path too. I bought a pack from Amazon which includes a workbook, 2 cds and some cue cards which looks good but I've not got beyond the first chapter yet ;o) http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1564559068/203-6799469-0622350 Let me know how it goes and I'll be popping by to see what other's advise.
