In my opinion the cropping has shifted the predominant wick off-centre thus the image has become more effective…

This has the impression that there's not long to go before the tealight splutters out. It adds to the flame to see the red glowing wick in the centre. The colours in the cropped image are darker and the shadows more noticeable than the original. I like the blue edge to the candle flame, it contrasts well with the yellow/orange of the candle.
