Halloween is over (thankfully) for another year. I try to get it all together for this holiday but after I look at everyone else's photos, I realize I just so Faux.

OOOH I'm so full of good intentions. I grew up in a family that lived for the homemade costume (if your mother bought you a costume...well, I hate to break it to you but, she really doesn't love you). HOWEVER...that was in the day of gross nylon jumpsuits and flammable masks.

Last Sunday(because if I am nothing else, I am a PROCRASTINATOR), I laid out the lame, the tulle, the satin and the lace on my dining room table and unfolded the pattern pieces for the WITCH COSTUME TO BEAT ALL WITCH COSTUMES and THE MERMAID COSTUME OF THE CENTURY. I think there were 50 pattern pieces for each costume. And......

MOMA choked.

And she gazed upon the material spread out before her and at the 100 pattern pieces...and she cried:

GIRLS! LET'S GO TO TARGET!

And so it was done. Ani was a mermaid; Eli was a princess and moma is still sane (?!)

And....instead of using the all butter, thrice sifted Magnolia Bakery cupcake recipe I......gasp....used a cake mix(!) and canned (!) frosting to make cupcakes for the kindergarten bash.

Forgive me, Martha, for I have sinned....

i have the creative capability of a gecko (i picked something that is cute). so you both are way ahead of me. the problem is my daughter has her mother's *imagination*, so i tried, really tried, to get scarecrow stuff for her. in the end, she looked like someone with freckles, bad dress sense, and birthday curly ribbon coming out of her chest. i? went as an office worker. but a disgruntled one...

Hahahahaha. Yeah, I had awesome intentions this year too. My daughter wanted to be a tap-dancing spider. So I came up with the most darling and creative outfit to appease her. And then, I "choked" as you say. So, I convinced her that she really wanted to be a pig. We bought her pink sweats and a pig nose. Hey, she was comfy... Maybe if I start NOW, I can get the spider costume made in time for next year (when, of course, she will no longer want to be a tap-dancing spider because by then it will be SO LAME.)
