I caught my teenager on Myspace again this week. What is so bad about that? Well, last summer she met a guy on there and ran up $1,200.00 dollars in long distance out of state phone calls to him before we figured out what was going on. She has been forbidden to go on there again.
Last Friday night she was getting ready to go to a dance at a friend's house. Apparently she went online to Myspace while she was over there. I happened to see it Monday when I was on the computer. I have a Myspace profile, too, and she is a friend of mine on there. So I clicked on her profile to see what she was up to. She had changed her tagline to, "Talk shit get hit bitch". I'm thinking, this just doesn't sound appropriate for a 13 year old who calls herself a Christian. I looked a little further into recent comments, there was a very sexually suggestive one from the boy she ran up the phone bill to last summer.
I told my husband about all this, and that it showed her last loggin to be Friday, 2 days prior. He pulled it up on his computer and we called her in. She lied right on the spot and said she thought she had deleted her profile. I told her not to dig a hole any deeper when she is already in one and instructed her to go delete it now! She had given a fake email setting it up and found she couldn't delete it.
Now I am REALLY mad! She claims she is 16 years old on there when she is really 13, I want it gone and she is having trouble getting rid of it! If there are other parents out there who have a beef with Myspace I'd like to hear from you. Maybe together we can get something done about this. She is fortunate she has not been preyed upon.
I went on my profile to legitimately put a banner on there to Disneyshopping.com, I am an affiliate for them. When you click on the banner it warns that you are going out of Myspace and this is pfishing! Yet they let teenagers go on there and curse each other and do everything short of pornography.
Any ideas, parents?
