What can I say about me.. hmmm... well, I'm a lacto/ovo vegetarian and have been since 1975. Long enough that people no longer think it's just a passing phase. At that time I read "Diet For A Small Planet" by Frances Moore Lappe. That one book was the catalyst that set me on the road to being a vegetarian. I love animals, but that didn't factor into my change of diet. Vegetarianism is MY choice of diet but I DO NOT believe that it gives me the right to force my lifestyle on others. As long as you don't try to tell me what I should eat, I won't tell you what I think you should. If you are curious about the why's or what I eat, just ask and I will answer as best I can. I WON'T preach ! Honest.

Retired from the telecommunications industry, I met my husband, a chef at Eton College, on the original Africam website nine years ago. That's how I came to be living in this lovely historical place.

Before that I'd lived for 25 years in a cabin in the woods in a little village in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The village was named Finland, hence the nick that I use.

I've taken pictures from the time I was in my early teens. Photography has been a hobby since I was in my early twenties, starting when I bought a Minolta SRT 101 ( I think that was the model, lol) SLR. For the last 8 years I've gone digital and now have a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ50 which I really like. Next step is to get a telephoto adaptor lens.

My other hobby is coarse fishing with my husband. In the main we target carp. My personal best is 24 lbs 4 oz. (that's me and BOB - Big Old Boy - in the avatar pic) Steve has a 31.5 lb carp as his PB. In the winter months we like pike fishing, they are truly beautiful, awsome creatures. I know that many people disagree with sport fishing; I can only say that we take all due care to not harm the fish and return them to the water as quickly as possible. Fishing is just that.. fishing... catching is another matter all together, lol. It's the perfect sport for me as a photographer. I have plenty of time to sit in the beautiful out of doors and observe the passing clouds, the play of light in a woodland or on the water; the trees, the birds, the animals and bugs. A day spent fishing, even if not catching, is never wasted.

Jackal and Pari have dragged me, kicking and screaming, to this site.. they are formidable women in their own right and together I think they could move the proverbial Mountain to Mohammed. So here am I and we shall see what happens.
