Hey y'all, I have gone completely country. As you know from an earlier post, we have been in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania this week and we have been having a great time, but let me tell you, it is country. When we first checked in, I asked the lady who helped us if there were any street lights on the grounds for night time vision and basically she was like, "oh no, people don't really go out at night." I was like, "oh, ok, that's cute".
Being a New Yorker and all, we are used to being able to go grab a meal at ANY time, it doesn't matter if it is 3pm or 3am, whatever you may need is available. Thangs are a little different around these parts and it has taken Drew nearly a week to settle.
I roll out of bed, take a shower, leave the house with my hair wet, don't wear mascara, wore the same skirt two days in a row, and ya know what?, it doesn't matter y'all cause I'm country. Nothing seems to be as big a deal as it is in New York. Of course, I know it is because I am on vacation but there is something very relaxing and soothing about this place that I am completely unaccustomed too.
I keep telling Drew, no worries, we're country now. So the faucet doesn't work, the trash bin fell over and the toilet paper holder broke off, no worries, we're country. Isn't that what Britney Spears said when she was caught driving her car on the Pacific Coast highway with her baby on her lap?
This is my new answer to all, my new lease on life.
It is so unbelievably liberating, no one is around, no lines, no trying to find a spot by the pool. We have the whole pool completely to ourselves except for one other family that we have seen so far. And it is a beautiful departure from the crowds in New York. We can come and go as we please, we get parking spots at stores, we get seated immediately when we go out to eat. Whatever, you name it and it is easy.
In the five days that we have been here, our mentality has gone so country, that yesterday we attempted to go to the yearly county fair and had to wait in a long of cars for about 10 minutes, and Drew and I looked at each other and we were like, "uh, this doesn't look too good, it looks too crowded." So we actually pulled AWAY from the line, made a u-turn and got the hell out of there. I am willing to bet that there were less people at that fair than there are in a four block radius of my house in New York.
It is almost time to head home and Drew is finally finding his 'Pocono' legs. Let's see how long my country attitude lasts next week when I am getting the girls ready for school.
Well y'all, at least we'll always have the Poconos.
