Solomon continues giving his reasons for writing the proverbs - and they seem so simple in the reading - but can be considerably tougher in the doing!
Proverbs 1: 3 - 4
for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life
doing what is right and just and fair
for giving prudence to the simple
knowledge and discretion to the young--
I read that first verse - and say 'of course that's what I want my life to be' - but sometimes the discipline just isn't there, and the day gets out of control - sometimes 'prudent' goes out the window in favor of 'impatient' and I lose sight of right and just and fair. Seems tho, at those times especially, God nudges me to stop - take a moment - and get my eyes and heart back on Him. What a relief! When Jesus is sharing the burden of my life - the chaos melts away, and order returns.
The second verse is an encouragement to me - it is in God's word that I can find the prudence - the knowledge and the discretion - the entire rulebook is right here! My problem is in remembering to consult it before I run off to do something. These daily reminders are helping to change that!
Good food for thought this day!
