ISN'T IT GREAT TO KNOW WHO IS REALLY IN CONTROL?

Proverbs 4: 7-8
Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom
though it cost all you have, get understanding
Esteem her and she will exalt you;
embrace her, and she will honor you
It couldn't be more clear how highly regarded are wisdom and understanding - one being supreme, and the other worth everything you have! That's pretty un-ambiguous. And then the results of it....
The second verse tells what the end will be....wisdom, being supreme, will end up lifting you up to an exalted place....with honor - now that's a goal worth pursuing! God has a plan for each of us - and this is part of it - the best of the best!

Proverbs 4: 5-6
Get wisdom, get understanding
do not forget my words or swerve from them
Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you
love her and she will watch over you.
These pleas could be, and I believe are, also coming from God straight to each one of us! Get wisdom, get understanding - this theme has run through the proverbs from the beginning - and when the Bible repeats something, it is IMPORTANT. This must be really important - for it is repeated often.
To rely on wisdom makes such sense - to not be swayed by this wind, or that fad, or this 'new' idea - but do they last? Usually not.....but the words in the Bible do - and have - and are as relevant today as they were the day they were written down...I'm claiming this as my life's 'rulebook' - and here is where I'll find my direction!

Proverbs 4: 3-4
When I was a boy in my father's house
still tender and an only child of my mother
he taught me and said, "Lay holdof my words with all your heart
keep my commands and you will live."
In these verses, I see both Solomon tenderly teaching his son by recounting his own childhood as a basis for passing things on to his son....and I also see the teaching of my heavenly Father, speaking so tenderly to me, and each one of us.
From before each of us was born, God knew us, and loved us - and here He is drawing me close to tell me the things on His heart for me - to 'lay hold' of His words - don't just read them - make them part of myself! And....keep my commands - which is much easier to strive for if we already have laid hold of His word....He gave us the instruction book, after all!
I am liking both the imagery and the message in today's food for thought!

Proverbs 4: 1 - 2
Listen, my sons, to a father's instruction;
pay attention and gain understanding
I give you sound learning
so do not forsake my teaching.
Such wise words to start out a new week! Listen to a father's instruction - and from where I'm at - this not only is for the physical relationships - but also my relationship with my heavenly Father - to listen. Most of the time, I do far too much talking and not enough listening.. and look at what I have to gain!!
The second verse reinforces the first - to me, the Bible is the one place where i know that the teaching is sound - that I won't be mislead, that what is being said is a mere opinion, rather than the real truth. It is the very best place to get my standards to measure everything else. Not a chance that I would 'forsake' that teaching!
