Have you ever decided to do something thinking it would turn into nothing and then it turned into something?
A couple of months ago, I saw that some of my internet friends were doing audition videos for a contest “The Top Affiliate Challenge”. Well just for fun I made an audition video and submitted it.
For this contest people go to the web site, watch your audition video and then you a score. At the end of the contest, the people in the top ten ranking get to be on the show and 2 more people are selected from the remaining top 25.
THE SHOW – What could that be about? Well it is going to be a reality show where the 12 people are divided into teams, assigned marketing challenges. Kind of like Donald Trump’s “The Apprentice” shows. The team that looses, has to send someone home and in the end someone will be named the Top Affiliate
Ok, I was in the top 25. I decided to make another audition tape. It got a higher base score than my first one and before I knew it I was in FOURTH position.
How exciting! For all you Seniors out there, this was most exciting to me as I am up against all these younger people (mostly guys). This old grandma was getting pretty excited at the possibility of actually making it in the contest and going up against them.
Would I get sent home the 1st day? One of my friends who is also in the ranking, made a hint that maybe I would. OK, the challenge was on.
Then all of a sudden last week with only one week to go before the voting is over, some people sent in new audition tapes at the last minute. In one day I went from number 4 to number 17. Ha, I think I have been through something like that in life before, have you?
Ever been on top of the world one day, and then it is like a pen is stuck in your bubble and you go tumbling down?
I guess it is all working out for the best, as my Father is ill and is visiting me from Iowa. When I made his plane reservations, I never dreamed I would have to face a decision of being with him or jetting off for 3 weeks to be in a challenge. A I began to plummet, I decided that even though I might be selected a one of the 2 from the top 25, I’d better step aside and let someone else have the chance, so I could do what I knew all along I had to do----Help my dad.
So, here I am, the last week of the contest. Happy that I did it, glad that for a while I was in the top 10, sad when I dropped out of the top 10, but realizing that I had no choice but to do what I needed to do for my family. That’s Life!!
So I won’t be there in the flesh, but I will be there in spirit. I’ll keep you posted on the contest, so keep watching my blog. Go vote for my friend
