On Father's Day, I was able to stop by a friends house for his daughters graduation party. He and his family came to my son's graduation party a couple of years ago. We grew up together. Went to the same schools. We were inseparable in our teens. Until we discovered girls. He got married and enlisted in the Army. I got married and started a computer consulting business.
After the first Gulf War, he came home and we all celebrated. We still manage to get together occasionally, usually once a year. We live about 2 miles apart. We run in to each other at the grocery store. Our kids go to school together. We used to bump in to each other at the girl scouts Daddy Daughter dances. We always promise we are going to be better about calling and visiting. Our busy lives never seem to permit.
On Sunday, we got to congratulate his daughter on graduating. We had a great time exchanging stories about growing up. We talked about our children growing up. I saw his two sister's for the first time in 20 years. More stories. It is unbelievable that our kids are grown and graduating high school. It seems like just yesterday, we were in high school. Seeing my old friend and realizing our kids are grown, blew me away. Life is short. Enjoy each and every day.
