Haiku is a short verse of seventeen syllables with a single theme usually expressed in two contrasting images usually of sensory impressions. It is not a profound thought but a simple delightful expression of awareness of the seasons. It took me a lot of time to understand this two-part thing and I was carrying on merrily with the run-on sentences with attempted profundity.

Rather disappointing,isn't it ? But really it is not so. Practicing awareness of the passing seasons is a delightful occupation especially in the background of the growing feeling of transience within us as we go about our life's business. But the awareness here is not tinged with sadness but is rather by way of celebration of the beauties of nature. A haiku does not cause a feeling of gloom but rather enhances your joy of living.
