LIGHTBULB MOMENTS
Ever have one of those?
When people tell you something for the umpteenth time and you still don't get it until suddenly,
-BAM-
the light comes on and you finally understand??
Well, you'd think that wouldn't need to occur with the socially, educationally and emotionally liberal elite crowd because frankly, dahhling I was really beginning to believe they already knew everything. Though the bulb is dim, I believe at least one of those elites is on to something "evil conservatives" well, we've known all along.
I found it utterly amusing this weekend when I heard that the gov't of Massachusetts was looking for revenue...(whaddya know!) and the head of the Ways & Means Committee (the name along makes me smile) figured out that they could reach in to the pockets of non-profit organizations like, oh...Harvard & tax their endowments, which are in excess of $34 billion dollars.
Ultra Liberal institutions such as this should be more than happy to hear about this opportunity "give to the little people" and donate their income to the government without permission, right? That is their motto, right? After all, it's their civic duty to level the playing field and bring about "change" and "fairness" isn't it? (please note: I'm being sarcastic and I believe that everyone has the right to hold on to their own hard earned or otherwise, money w/minimal gov't involvement.)
You'd be surprised to know how wrong you are for believeing they want to donate large sums of their money. I know...take a moment to catch your breath. Turns out they're only interested in the government taking large sums of money for "certain" people. I found out I was wrong too and Kevin Casey, Harvard's, Associate VP for Gov't, Community & Public Affairs set me straight. See, it's only OK to take the profits of successful people who work smart & hard for them (large, successful corporations who pay an infinitely higher percentage of taxes than regular Joe's). After all, we wouldn't want the "haves" to hold on to any evil, "unfair" extra dollars even though they worked for them...no! Those dollars that could be used by companies to expand, form new jobs, increase pay and study new technologies??? No, that would be a bad thing and if I tell you that often enough, you'll believe me, I'm certain.
Better to let the government take the companies' money and funnel it to failing programs, people who wont get their diplomas or work when able while receiving "free" monthly checks, pay overpaid politicians, fund jet flights, power lunches and the like. As you can see, they're much better at managing our money than we are.
Relax...we know that our government has top notch management and budget skills
(don't think about the national debt, just tell yourself they know better how to spend your money than you do!).
It's okay to make large, successful corporations and the rich to bear the majority of the tax burden, but it's not OK to tax income from institutions like Harvard...no, no, no!
Why, then, as Mr Casey said, "...You'd be taxing success."
and well, that's different.
They're catching on!
See Mr. Beck for more thrilling info...
