They seem to be arriving by the thousands every month. How sad is this. Many animals are being turned over to animal shelters because their owners are facing foreclosure. The sad thing is that a lot of people are turning their animals loose into the streets when they lose their home.
According to USA Today, animal shelters in high foreclosure areas are getting the brunt of it and there’s a growing concern that more pets could be on the way – due to a rough economy and the rising unemployment rate.
Take the necessary steps in order to keep your furry friend from going to the animal shelter:
Don't set your pet loose to roam the streets.
Don't leave them in the empty house.
Inside pets do NOT do well in the 'outside' world. They are not accustom to living on their own, looking for food or fighting with other animals.
Check with local shelters for temporary assistance. Many places will watch after your pet until you find a new home.
