So I moved down to Golden from Boulder in May, and have wanted to commute to work by bike (still in Boulder) ever since. Due to some logistics and races and more recently and injury (yeah, I have pretty much been sidelined since the middle of June) I had passed it off to this point.
Well my friends, yesterday was the day. Maybe it wasn't the smartest thing for my IT Band injury, but I did it, 38 miles each way, with a total time of 4 hours and 46 minutes, with a little side of rain thrown in.
I started when it was dark, and ended when it was dark. My fitness is a little behind (I felt good in June when I got hurt at the 12 hrs of Endurance), but quickly realized that riding maybe a handful of times in the last 2 months isn't nearly enough to complete such a big task. Thank goodness there was that 7-11 on the way, that old fashioned donut, pack of gummy worms, and chocolate milk was my savior. I wouldn't have been able to finish the ride without it.
Cheers.

Hey, the Neal. I feel you pain with the injury. I've been sidelined since June myself. Curious... how do you avoid the "death trap" on Highway 93 just south of Boulder where there is no shoulder on the road?

It is a fine line between fun and just plain foolishness! I guess everyones line is in a different place. Good post!
