I've heard it said that the two things you really need in your tool kit are duct tape and WD-40.
I'd like to add one more thing to that list: Epoxy.
This stuff is amazing!
It's been around forever and I've known about it all this time, but haven't ever really used it until just recently.
The passenger side rear-view mirror on my wife's car broke; the supports internally gave out and the housing dangled off loosely. I tried to repair it with Gorilla Glue, which up until then I'd considered the best adhesive ever. A week later, that glue gave out and the mirror housing was falling off again.
I decided to try epoxy this time.
Four weeks later, that mirror housing is rock solid, like brand new. Amazing!
Just last week my wife accidently busted a little motorized window crystal (it spins and throws rainbows around the room in full sunlight). I used epoxy to reconstruct the broken portion connecting the motor housing to the solar cell, and in only half an hour that repair was solid and ready to go.
Since then I've used it to fix fairy wings on a music box, mount a battery holder for a closet light, and fix a solar powered outdoor lantern.
This stuff just won't quit.
It comes in different formulations for different jobs, including the infamous "Mighty Putty" for situations where you need to lift a cinder block, hang your weights, attach a mailbox or pull a 18-wheel tractor trailer.
If it needs sticking, forget about duct tape: get epoxy.
