I've got my new Canon 400D - will post some pics soon, just need to get to grips with it!

I can't wait any longer, I HAVE to upgrade! Tomorrow, after driving mother-in-law to Lancaster (and leaving her there!), I will return to Liverpool and finally purchase my new DSLR.

After much debate I am going for the Canon 400D, let's face it...I'm no David Bailey and don't need to spend £1000s on a camera.

I have also ordered an adapter so I can fit some of my Dad's old Pentax lenses to my new EOS. This is not going to be a long term solution but will hopefully let me try different focal lengths before investing in some newer glass.

I may even try to get a deal on a prime macro lens, but unless they can match close to the lowest internet price I've found then I'll wait a few days for delivery instead.

Yesterday's unusually dry and sunny weather afforded the opportunity for my mother-in-law and I to enjoy a barbecue and dinner on the terrace (yard). This was, of course, accompianied by several large glasses of Rose wine and so, dear reader, this morning I am suffering from the predicatable hangover.

My question is this; is it possible that after thousands of years of human civilazation and a fair few years of medical research that I have discovered the fabled cureall? How can it be that a simple bacon sandwich (ketchup, not brown sauce!) has such extraordinary restorative properties?

All of a sudden I feel clear-headed and fighting fit, ready to embrace the day (but not my mother-in-law). Time to get on and get going, things to do, people to see. And all the while, silently thanking the pig and the butcher for making all this possible! Long live the bacon sarnie...

Well ok, so this is my first blog - how many times must people have read that before?

I'm not really sure what I'm going to use this blog for, I'm not an expert in anything, I have no grand wisdom to impart...I'm just here, with an internet connection and little else to do. Does that make me socially inept? No, I don't think so; I have a long term partner, Duncan, a job where I have made many friends and a loving family who I keep in regular contact with.

Do you sometimes wonder whether the pleasure of spending time with yourself (not in a sexual sense!) gets overlooked? My partner works a lot of nights so sometimes I don't see him for a few days, but I enjoy the time when its just me, as much as I relish the time that its the two of us. We have no kids, sorry Moms & Dads posters, no pets, no responsiblilties - and its f-ing brilliant. Not least because I get the remote control to myself :o)

I think I'll use this space to 'entertain/bore' people with the mundanity of my life and aspirations (the common blog, you might say). I have my mother-in-law coming to stay tomorrow for a few days, and that should provide some entertainment for others, even if it doesn't for me!
