Alright, here goes... stream of consciousness time...
I was summoned for jury duty this week. Well, the summons came months ago so technically that isn't true. But you know what I mean.....
I was to report at 8:00am to the Plymouth (Massachusetts) Trial Court. This meant that I would probably have to go to bed sometime sooner than 2:00am-ish for once. Rats. My oldest actually asked when he saw me at 7:00am fully dressed, "What are you doing up?". Hmmmm, guess I am not a morning person.
I had never been to the Plymouth courthouse (I stay out of trouble!) so I didn't know what to expect. When I pulled up I was quite surprised at the newness and beauty of the building. My tax dollars at work!
I reported into the jury pool room and checked in. The court officer who was in charge of the jury pool indicated that there was only one judge doing trials that day since the others were busy doing arraignments (busy Fouth of July weekend with lots of arrests). This bode well for a quick release without having to actually sit on a jury.
While things shook out and we waited to see if we would be impaneled the court officer told us we had about 90 minutes to ourselves. We could take walk, go get a bite to eat or whatever. Just be back in the pool by 10:30.
I immediately thanked myself for bringing the camera. I could roam the grounds and shoot photos! Whoo-hooo.
As I mentioned the building was attractive so I figured I would get a Project 365 http://annoyinglyboring.com/project-365/ shot, and maybe a shot for the Daddyshack Photo Scavenger Hunt http://www.flickr.com/groups/daddyshack/ (one of the items for the week is Architecture). I took about 40 photos. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bostonpat/sets/72157606031512630/
When time was up and I was heading back into the courthouse the security guards stopped me and asked why I had been taking photographs of the courthouse. I guess I made them a bit suspicious. I don't think they quite understood when I told them "it's what I do." I explained, or tried to, about my blog and my project 365. I may as well have been speaking creole. Oh well, they just looked at each other and let me go on my merry way back to the jury pool.
Turns out that all the cases that may have been before the one judge working trials that day either were settled with a plea bargain or continued to a later date. No trial for me.
So off to home I went happy to have done my service, and knowing I am off the hook for the next 3 years.
