So I'm looking on craigs list for some little tykes stuff for my 2 yr old-don't feel like paying full price for something they use for 2 yrs. Anyway, a posting has caught my eye. It reads, 13 year old girl is starting school in 3 days and needs all school supplies. Apparently this family can't afford any of them, has only managed to buy her new shoes. Think back to being 13, we all wanted the coolest stuff for school and felt like dorks if we didn't have them. My family didn't have much in the way of $ so I can really relate. I proceed to call this family to let them know I would love to help out. The aunt tells me she will have to get back to me after church and feeding her kids. She also mentions she lives about a half hour south of me and can possibly meet me somewhere-"possibly" being the key word here. She then e mails me her list of items and off to Super Target we go. Mom's know this can be time consuming as well as quite costly, none the less it feels good to help out. The place is swarming with moms and kids scrambling to complete their list.At one point my 2 year comes within inches of losing a limb by a crazed shopping cart. After about an hour of this place we head home to make the call. The girls aunt tells me she may not be able to meet us due to the fact she has yet to feed her kids and "has a baby to take care of". Shethen tells me she may have found someone closer to them who wants to donate and lets me know she will call me as "a last resort". I am now shocked! Did I just hear what I thought I heard? I Never got a call back but did receive an e mail telling me thanks anyway. Boy, times must really be changing. Now if the ad would have read "school supplies wanted however, I will pick the most convenient donor-I can't disrupt my day too much". I wouldn't be in a position where I have school supplies to return. So call me crazy, is there something wrong with this picure?

Some people are so unbelievable. How could they post such a request then expect someone to go even more out of their way as to deliever it. It was so sweet of you to even go out and buy stuff.

wow, you are very kind. unfortunately we can't control other people's insanity. you are so sweet to have gone to this much trouble and expense for people you don't know. i don't know about you, but i love to give. i think i would have been disappointed as much as angry over this whole situation. hopefully this woman will learn to accept (graciously) the help she asks for.

Your good heart will not be unrewarded. The other woman, I have no idea what to say about her. Well, I do, but normally try not to talk that way.

OK this is unreal. Your heart was in the right place unfortunately it seems your recipient seems to have misplaced hers not to mention her ungrateful flippant attitude. I'm certain you could find a child who could use these supplies. Maybe contact your local Department of Childrens Services to see if they have any foster children who are in need? I know our Department has a drive at the beginning of each school year to help offset the school startup cost. You could also check around with some of your local churches as they may know of a family in need. Hopefully you will find a child in need then you can rest knowing that your charitable gesture is being put to good use. :0)

I tried writing this comment three times now but nothing I say conveys just have shocked and outraged I am by this. you are a rare woman to do something like that. I think Peggy's idea is a good one - I'm sure there is someone much more deserving at your childs school.

That is unbelievable! How rude of her! We have a school supply drive at work here, so I'm sure if you look into local groups in your town, you'll find one who'd love the school supplies and actually be thankful for your donation.

You've got a good heart, I'll give you that. I am just in shock someone could be so ungrateful for the help they claim they need!
