I need to change my About Me. I no longer have a 4-hour commute. I'm also probably not gonna be so busy anymore.

If you value job security,
If you value not being at the mercy of one man's whim,
If you value being rewarded for growing your customer base by 15% every month you've been there,

Don't work for a start-up.

I got a nice resume. Any takers?

Dude - We haven't ever exchanged thoughts but I do understand and can truly empathize with you. What's worse is being the starter of the start up and having it fail. You keep pushing forward with a positive attitude and the doors that just miraculously open at the last minute will blow your mind.

That stinks. I know that groundless feeling all too well. I have had two major layoff experiences. For what it's worth, I can say honestly that each one ended up teaching me that I was more valuable than I thought. Good management is hard to find! You will land on your feet - here's hoping it's somewhere with a shorter commute, better $$ and a more appreciative company.

Oh man, I'm really sorry to hear that. Hubs is in telecom here in SD and we see this stuff happen all the time. Let's hope it's a short lived "vacay" and you're back in biz in no time. Preferably without the crappy commute.

That is tough news Jim. You've got way to many good things going on to be down for long. Maybe now is the prime time to crank up the marketing engine on BusyDad Tales? Hang in there.

Dang. That sucks BD! I'm sure you'll find something fast. If you need a reference, just let me know. I'd be happy to tell prospective employers about how good you are at opening Newcastles.

Ouch. Start-ups have great potential for amazing success and propsperity -- and simultaneously the potential for sudden disappearance and oustings. Been there. At least I was rewarded with a new, cynical outlook on my employer. Sorry to hear it, man.

Dude. Stuff happens for a reason. Feeling your pain, but knowing you'll have something exponentially more cool and creative in a blink. Man. Have a Newcastle. Or ten.
