My boy Scott Converse from Musings from Scott posted a funny, slammin post called: Over Age Meme . . . this one’s getting old. It was a follow up to a meme between Fred Wilson and Dave Winer talking about how, if ya over 30 you CAN’T do a start-up. (Ya; I know, folks have been talking about this for awhile, but it’s all good). Knowin’ that me and my partners are all over 30, and we are about to launch the Buzz I’m thinking I’ll give ya’ll my 411 on old-school cats vs. new school cats and how they compare in doing a start-ups and why . . .

. . . over 30 means you CAN do a start-up!

My first and most poignant point:
. . .The young bull says to the old bull, as he is looking down a hill at field of young cows, “hey let’s run down their and . . . one of them cows” and the older bull quietly looks at him and say’s; “let’s walk down and . . . em all!”

(in my opinion, argument done, but to erase any doubt hear are a few more)

1. Over 30, we already know how to get chicks! (we don’t need to be the “CEO” of a start-up to be cool)

2. Working with hang-overs is a thing of the past

3. Start-up capital isn’t from our mom, we actually earned it. (it’s gonna hurt if we screw up)

4. We are well past the “I know everything” teen years, we will actually listen to outside advice.

5. Our networks extend beyond dad’s country club and Sigma Chi Alum’s, we have our own real relationships in the real world

6. Our context is broader than Google, Sponge Bob, Youtube, and Paris Hilton. We get it, there was something before us, and maybe, just maybe it was relevant

7. We can NOT act our age and still be in our 20’s not in diapers.

8. If today’s 50 is yesterday’s 30’s then . . . we are actually in our 20’s YES!!!!

9. If you’re in your 20’s and you’re doing a start-up, you gotta be the biggest, geekiest, dorkiest cat alive, cause your 20’s is meant for one thing and it ain’t sitting in a dark room, with a bra on your head (weird science)* behind a mac, writing code. Yo dawg! Get a life!
