Part of the problem

. . . or part of the solution? Which are you?
I am at the airport, I know the airport again. I should have been a bee. Bein’ a bee is like having your own private jet. Ants, we gotta, walk or fly commercial like the rest of ya’ll.
Anyway, I’m at the airport and one of the TSA’s cats pulls a bag off the conveyor and asks who it belongs to. The owner identifies herself. TSA says they gotta check her bag. All good, right no problem. Well the traveler is runnin’ late and is a bit panicked she is gonna miss her flight. She tells Ms. TSA of her concern, in a frazzled and less than fluent way, mind you. My point, my girl is a little freaked out that she is losin’ time to a bag check. Here is where it gets stupid. Rather than, respond with efficiency and speed to accommodate our travelin’ friend, Ms. TSA feels she needs to stop the bag check and explain why the woman needs to calm down, why it is her fault the bag is being check and why she needs to relax.
Ms. TSA you are the problem. Your job is to protect our safety and the security of the Airport. How you do that is up to you. You can be responsive to travelers. You can be empathetic of their situations. You can be supportive, helpful and a valuable part of the traveling experience. Or, as you did, you can choose to be combative, cold and rigid and make the problem worse. We get it, you’re all that, you got the power, we don’t. The question is how are you gonna use it? Are you gonna be part of the problem or part of the solution? You CHOSE, to be part of the problem!
What about ya’ll? Are ya’ll solution people or problem people? I got money ya’ll are problem people. Why, cause you have to be empathetic. You have to genuinely give a crap about others and their problems. You gotta be willing to put others needs ahead of yours to be part of the solution and most of ya’ll don’t. Hey, don’t be hater’s, it’s true. It’s just the way people are.
What do I mean? Check Ms. TSA, her need to be in control, and exert her power, was more important to her than whether or not this traveler made her flight. It is too easy to put our own, jacked up needs, first.
Building and runnin’ a business or a team that is part of the solution will far out perform those that are part of the problem. There is a favorable ROI for being part of the solution. Look around, what do you see, problems or solutions? Service is outward facing. Which direction are you or your business lookin’?
Ms. TSA, I know I will be late one of these days, can I count your help or are ya just gonna get in the way?

I fly first class, so I’m not one of y’all, but I don’t worry, I won’t get in your way. You seem a bit tightly wound and I’d be too worried you might snap. ![]()
