Minus Imus

Boy did Imus stick his foot in his mouth?! Damn fool. But I got a question. In a country where people still throw out the n word regularly, cops lite up unarmed brothas with 50 plus bullets, and a mixed neighborhood is about as common as snow in July; is the country REALLY outraged?
Do ya think the country is really pissed? Or do ya think they are reacting to the discomfort? What is really behind the backlash? What is the country reacting to? Why has this taken off so quickly? Yeah, what he said was deplorable. He’s a punk, no question. But, racial equality, and tolerance are not what we could call Americas best traits.
Ya know what I think? I think when someone does something that makes us look bad or feel uncomfortable, we react with a vengeance. We are a country where the issue of race is still an open sore we rarely want to discuss. So, instead of making it better, we don’t talk about it and allow the topic to be taboo and fester; and if a fool pulls back the curtain and exposes us for the fact that we still haven’t confronted the demons, society will lash out and he or she will pay with their life . . . or at least their job!
We don’t like to feel uncomfortable! Radio is now minus Imus!

I for one think everyone overreacted, maybe a suspension or something would’ve done the trick, he met with the girls and smoothed things over. At least he took that step and didn’t hide behind the mike. I’m a little irritated at the double standards this country is so guilty of employing.

No, I don’t think the country is outraged. I think Al Sharpton, a man who should not be throwing stones, whipped a small minority of people into enough of a frenzy that it worried a few of the advertisers who pulled their ads in a knee-jerk reaction, which in turn scared CBS.
You make a good point, because by firing him, we simply put a bandaid on the sore so it can scab over again, but nothing came out of this which might actually take a shot at healing a very deep wound that has festered for a very long time.

I think anytime Al Sharpton gets involved in anything he does more damage than good. I hate that guy.

It is a scabby double standard. At least to me. To the world around me, it wasn’t the big deal it was manufactured to be. If anything, it widens the chasm between races. But the comics sure love it. I’m betting “nappy headed hos” will be in the dictionary along with “Plutoed” next year. Which would be great, because I’m still not sure if “hos” is spelled with an “e” or not. If I were on the Rutgers team, I’d already have a book deal and a copyright.

Imus the scapegoat. Did he deserve to get fired? No! I feel that in America we take the wrong issues seriously. For example, Imus calls a team Nappy Headed Hoes. We refuse to address the real hos in the country to get them help( Imagine eliminating their jobs).
Also since media is 365 - 24/7 type of thing small things blow up tp be larger then life I just hope when the large things happen we pay more attention,
