Practice makes perfect!

When I was a pint size punk, Dad ant would tell me that practice makes perfect, that I had to keep trying over and over. If it were basketball, he’d be “keep shootin”, if it were football, it’d be keep doing them drills. If I didn’t see the results I wanted, he would say keep practicing. Although I didn’t like practicin’ the craziest thing happened when I did, I actually got better. This trite phrase, may not be so trite after all.
What I have noticed, practice makes perfect is a dying phrase. I don’t hear it too often. I wonder why? Do you think it is because we feel so entitled that we expect to be good at something without working at and if we ain’t we just quit? Do ya think we’re too lazy to wanna try hard? Do ya think because it is hard and doesn’t feel good that parents don’t expect their kids to try?
Whadda bout you? How much do you practice? Your hobbies, your business, your job, your skill, what in your life are you practicing to get better? Repetition, repetition, repetition, is the key. Do it and do it again.
Then again, maybe it is too hard.

I agree, kids do expect to be great at whatever, sports, school and even friendships without really practicing or putting the effort in. this to me is a combination of faults. parents for sure, they do not want to see their kids “suffer” at anything today so what do we do tell them how great they are to make them feel good about themselves. Then of course gone are the days when kids from our generation were forced to actually play outside and be creative. if we wanted to win at outdoor games we had to work hard. Not to mention the “Paris Hilton” syndrome our kids see. Just be glamorous and rich and bam, you are a t.v. star with zero talent. This is a challenging era we are in- I’d be curious to see over the years if the numbers fall on truly talented kids in all aspects.

I don’t agree that those days are gone, my son is outside playing on the weekends and every weeknight and he has a playstation 2, he chooses to go outside instead. Mind you he didn’t get playstation until he was 8, but I do think those days are still here. The parents that are strict and still raise kids right are quieter because those who would let the government tell them what to do will call Johnny Law on us for any misstep..but trust me, there are still kids being taught to work hard and that practice makes perfect. I know a lot of people who raise their kids the same way I am…
