The secret to greatness
Popularity: 27%
I got a secret and I’m gonna tell all ya’ll. This is big, so ya gotta promise not to tell anyone. I mean this this is the deal, ya gotta keep it on the down low. If it were to get out, then greatness would become an everyday occurrence and how shitty would that be? So if you promise, I’ll tell ya!
Promise? OK good,
You want to be great, great at something; being a great parent, a great boss, running a great business, writin’ a great blog, being a great partner, being a great teacher or whatever you’re hearin me and you ain’t kiddin anyone, I know you do so stop frontin’ It is because of this yearnin’ that I am going share with you the secret to accomplish the fly goal. Ready?
Creativity! (pause for effect)
Yup, that is it. Doesn’t seem like much does it? Well, that is why not everyone is great. I’ve talked a little bit about this before in Be a Maverick. But, I feel it needs a bit more attention. Creativity is at the core of greatness; creativity takes time, it takes effort, it takes commitment, it is always in the presence of greatness. Let me break it down for you. Take a look at my post Bad problem, even worse response, now how could’ve creativity played this story out differently? Ya see, just turning off the Wifi is just fat lazy! NO creativity here. It is just too easy not to be creative. What could Vic’s have gotten if they stopped, asked some questions, looked at it a little differently and then responded? I promise you, it would have been a far better answer than just shut it off. There is a coffee shop somewhere that came up with a good answer and is reaping the benefits for it.
Creativity is hard, ya gotta put some effort into it. Fortunately for those of you who make the commitment, not many people like to work that hard. So ya got that workin for ya. Let me see, where are other examples I can give ya? How would things haved turned out differently if our boy George W. spent just a little more time trying to figure out how to respond to the terrorist threats instead of going the same old lazy route of, “we’re gonna kick some Arab a_ _?” Read G-money Cord’s post on Yahoo/MyBlog doesn’t look like too much creativity here. Remember my post on the National Pork Board? How difficult did they make life for themselves by NOT useing creativity. They got straight beat down and deservedly so. Creativity is the ability to respond to problems and challenges with a unique perspective. It is the ability to get more information than would normally be available. It is the ability to look at things completely different. It is the commitment to ask questions rather than make statements. It is the ability to say; “I don’t know.” It is the ability to leave your biases at the door. It is having the humility to realize that you DON’T have all the answers. It is being committed to doing something different. How different would things in your life, your business, your blog, or your partnerships turn out if you used creativity? I’ll tell ya, GREAT!
Some of us are gonna be creative, some of us aren’t.
Some of us are gonna be GREAT, some of us . . . AREN’T!

You know - I appreciate the comment you left on one of my posts the other day, the one of me ranting because my husband didn’t offer to help bring in or put away the groceries. And you asked, basically, how my response (or lack thereof) worked. Had I approached the situation a little differently instead of turning inward and fuming, I’m sure I would have gotten exactly what I had wanted - a husband helping out. He’s not a dolt, afterall, but I forget that he doesn’t take subtle hints very well. Now if only I could think of how to tackle the really big problems in my life using just a bit of creativity, I would be set!

Hi Antman,
It seems you really are a creative man yourself. And I don’t know how you do it. But that’s not the point. The point is that you do it. Being creative is all the things you said it was, plus one, a big one; knowing yourself. If you haven’t got a clue as to why you are here or what you are doing, then how can you be creative? Creativity comes from that place in us that has nothing at all to do with the logic of the mind. The mind can be used to find creative solutions, but that is just a pathway. The solution itself, the creative event being sought, comes from an intention and a trust to follow it. Getting to know who we are confirms the existence of this intention and stregthens the trust we have in it.
I like you antman. I can tell you have a clue to who you are.
Glad to read your blog. I’ll be back…

Sincerely, I almost cried when I read this. Do you know how hard some people fight for what they’re passionate about, and to hear you say it’s all about creativity is a blessing to me.
If all I have is creativity, then let me create in me a man of action. Then, what I dream, I can have.
