I don’t get it! Are we, I mean us dawgs (men), that hard up we are lead around by our jimmies all the time? Do we click on every sexy picture we see on the Internet? Cause it sure looks like it from a MBL perspective. Come on ya’ll. This post is straight shootin’ at all ya’ll posers who use women avatars on Mybloglog. I was gonna throw a couple of ya up here as an example, but I won’t.
I have talked about this before, authenticity is key. If your talking about women, or womens issues, or hot models, or hot bikini’s or Victoria’s Secret, then I get it. You’re gonna have a honey as your Avatar. But if not, damn, don’t do it.
Let me tell ya’ll what I see:
- A hot chick from the waste up in a bikini top for a myspace layout site,
- A chick with large breasts in a bra that is too small for a Youtube video blog
- A hot blond in a tight camisole for an Ebay auction site
- Another hot chick with large breasts in a camisole that is too small for a blog marketing site
- A honey from the neck down in a bikini with large breasts for a money management site
Where is the connection? It took me less than 10 minutes to find these. They are everywhere on MBL. So who is to blame, does it really drive more traffic? Why don’t women do it? Does it drive good traffic, or just create disappointed perverts? I don’t know the answer, but I know I don’t like the trend. Listen ya’ll. Your content will drive you as far as it can. The content will get you more readers. So come on, leave the ladies at home and give us some good writin’. You give us good writtin’, we’ll come back and we’ll tell friends. I promise!

If it does drive traffic, I can’t imagine it being useful traffic. Maybe it just makes it easier to get lots of contact requests accepted.
I’m equally annoyed by the animated avatars. I like showing my latest visitors, but if someone’s avatar is over in the sidebar jumping around and being a distraction, I’m blocking it.

I absolutely agree with you, but I do look at it in a little different way. I believe the reason these bloggers are using pictures of hot chicks is that is pretty much all they have. Take a read on some of these sites, my 5 year old cousin can write better than some of these fools. I think the guy who commented before me is a prime example. 
While some of us are using this platform to learn, educate and be part of a community, there are others who are only thinking short term of how many clicks they can get so they can make 20 bucks from Google Adsense this month.

I agree as well. Using attractive women’s images like that is a cheap shot. It’s not uncommon and has been part of marketing for a long time, way beyond the blogosphere. Sex will always sell, whether it’s pimped-out muscle cars or blogs. The good news is that there are those of us who are smarter than that. We can see beyond those ploys and are even turned away by it. Quality of content reigns in the end.

How to stir them up, Antman! I’m proud to know you are the type of guy you portray. As a father with a beautiful daughter I would be disappointed if she thought she had to use her image in this exploitative way in order to sell anything, from her ideas and principles to products for the home. Personally, I go for the content, too. It’s what keeps me engaged and thinking. Keep on lifting those amazing loads, little guy! This is a fabulous post. I have often wondered why men or women use sex to sell. I found when I put up pictures of myself serious people’s perspective was I was a “bitch”. So I had find pictures of me smiling in order for people to consider me friendly. Now what does that tell you?
