Maybe I shouldn’t have been so naive and should have realised that anything you write about from your past on the Internet is liable to be gazed upon eventually by somebody who featured in those events.

I had best explain what happened. I have a website in which I have written several short stories both fictional and stories as near factual as I can remember from my past.  Of course the memories can always become distorted but I think most of what I have written is the truth whatever that is!  As I said most of my stories are short stories but I decided to try to write an autobiography which was obviously a bit longer. http://lotties.brainiac.com/ceegee/index.htm

Until I became involved with the buzz I haven’t been in any social networking type website so it came as quite a shock when somebody from my dim distant past signed my guestbook.  Apparently he had put my name into Google and my web site came up.  I was thinking how nice it was for him to get in touch when suddenly I remembered what I had written in my autobiography about him!

We had known each other since we were about five years old and we got on quite well and I considered him a friend.  When I was 20 I went abroad for the first time and he was the person I chose to go away with.  Unfortunately in the year preceding the journey we hadn’t seen much of each other and our heads had drifted apart.  I had become a hippie with all that entailed!

For my first journey I had grandiose ideas of what I would do.  I had decided to get a boat from Newcastle England to Bergen in Norway then from there we would hitchhike down through Europe and then on to Kathmandu in Nepal.  I had about £200 which I thought would be enough for the expedition.  As it was we got as far as Dubrovnik in Yugoslavia before having only about £10 each we decided to turn back.

It had taken us about two months to get where we were and in that time he had got on my nerves with his excessive whining about not being able to get lifts and all that sort of thing. ‘It is not my fault we can’t get a lift.’  Eventually we were in Germany on the autobahn, where you weren’t allowed to hitchhike so we were dodging in and out to the fields to avoid the police.  On the last occasion we hid in a field I was the first person back at the roadside and a car stopped for me.  There was only enough room for one person because he had a washing machine in the back.  I saw an opportunity of getting out of being stuck in what seemed like an impossible position and also getting away from somebody who had been annoying me for months so I jumped in the car.  When we met again I said to him, ‘What happened to you!’

On page 38 of my autobiography I had told the truth about that particular incident but there was a great possibility that he wouldn’t read it after all there was a lot of writing on the website but later the same day he wrote again in my guestbook. ‘Thank you for leaving me in Germany all those years ago!’ Luckily 38 years had turned what had been something to get annoyed about into a joke and we have since started to communicate again by e-mail.

A couple of weeks ago he sent a message asking if it would be all right for him and Derek Wallwork, somebody else had featured on page 20 of my autobiography to visit me.  They are coming tomorrow so it should be interesting.  When I look at them I will probably at last realise I am getting old!

    that’s funny.

It’s a good thing to be able to laugh at youthful transgressions, especially when it’s the trangressee (yup, I made that up) who is able to laugh at it.

Hope you have a great visit.

    And, old? what’s that?

Oh, that is funny! I am so glad that it has turned into something to laugh about rather than to resent - that’s pretty cool! And now it’s turned into a visit - and that should be great fun!
I have a feeling when you see them, you will think THEY may have gotten old, but you definitely have not!
Can’t wait to hear about the visit!

I have found that re-connecting with someone from my past has always turned in to a somewhat humorous and very enjoyable event.

    Hope you all have fun.

Please fill us in after the visit.
