Beer at Birthday Parties?

Serving alcohol at birthday parties (to the adults, mostly). A requirement? A bad idea? Both?

We don't drink- so we don't/won't.

Is this birthday party at 10am or at 5pm??? I don't want to ruin my reputation by drinking TOO early in the day!?!?!? I mean, what would the other mother's think...sheesh. 8 - ) Erin

PS...still laughing about the vasectomy video!

I can barely deal with my own 3 kids without drinking, being around 20 others at once makes alcohol a requirement.

I guess it would depend. How is a "graduation" party different than a birthday party really?

I have no problem with it as long as it's not 10 in the morning, or one drunk parent with 20 kids...

If you're having a party with adults and kids, I don't see a problem with it.

I like these answers! I've been on the fence about whether to break out the beer at our son's first birthday party in a couple of weeks. I have a feeling I'll need it lol!

I'm with http://beta.cre8buzz.com/profiles/16 ... I wouldn't have one without it, besides how would I swallow down the valium I'd need to host a kids birthday party to begin with? ;)

Serious answer, I think it depends on who is there, time of day, etc. If there are other adults and parents there, I would say to offer alcholic beverages.May as well have some fun while the little ones do!

We're having at DS1s party next weekend (he'll be 5). It's a cookout & you have to have beer at a cookout. We're all responsible adults. No one is going to be getting trashed or doing beerbongs. But if someone wants to have a beer or a glass of wine with their kabobs they are welcome too. As parents we are supposed to model responsible behavior. Moderate drinking by legal adults is responsible behavior.

Yep, we served it at both their first and second birthday parties. And, I shared a bottle of wine with some friends of mine. We aren't regular drinkers, but our families aren't shy about their fondness for brewskies. So, we have beer and everything else, but we also drink in moderation!
