So I just spent an hour and a half searching for my daughter's "silkie," a small yellow blankie that she CANNOT live without.
The Bird Man and I unpacked several boxes (as we are scrambling to get ready to move), flipped over furniture, and generally tore the house apart. All the while the E is screaming "SILKIEEEEEEEEE" at the top of her lungs, and her sobs are just tearing my heart out.
It was under the couch.
I SWEAR I looked there first.
Which brings us to this week's topic:
Did/Does you child or children have a "lovey?"
What is it?
And what's your craziest lovey gone missing story?
The messed up thing is that this it was actually the backup silkie that disappeared. The original vanished last week (I'm pretty sure the E dropped in a box that I was packing so hopefully it will reappear when we arrive in Maryland and unpack). So I just ordered ANOTHER backup online. $17.99 to not have to go through this hell again? Well worth it.
My son never had one that he couldn't live without. He has a blanket/lamb, named Nena, that still sleeps in his bed...but if it were to go missing he wouldn't really notice. When he was 3 and under he needed it to sleep only...nothing during the day was needed though.
My son does not have a special toy or blanket that he has to have. But oddly enough, he has taken a real liking to a shirt of his that he has been playing with and snuggling for the past 4 nights. LOL
My older daughter has a stuffed animal puppy that she cannot live without. My younger daughter doesn't have a lovey at all, but she does still use a pacifier. And not just any pacifier, HER pacifier. If I lose that, I'm screwed.
My son had a stuffed Moose he slept with for a long time, well passed when we felt it was a good thing. Weaning him off that was one of the hardest things we've ever done. My daughter never did have anything she clung too for a long time.
I still have my favorite stuff animal. It's packed up for safe keeping, It was a stuff dog, George, and it's got to be more than 40 years old by now.
Good luck with the move!
Oh, I'm so glad you found Silkie!
My daughter went through a phase of loving the movie, "Mulan" and had a few little figures of her. They looked very similar, but she knew the subtle differences. After a long day, I happily handed her the figure I thought was the one she always had at bedtime but she said, "No, not this Mulan, Mommy."
I searched everywhere for the "right" mini (very small, impossible to find) Mulan and was so exhausted that I ultimately just gave up.
Glad you had better luck than I did!
;-)
Have you ever heard of the Gigi Blankies? Yeh...well...that's what my daughter loves. We have one at each grandparents' home and Two here (so we can wash)...and when she gets fussy/tired...that really helps her. She doesn't suck her thumb except for when she's ready to sleep (and not always then) and she doesn't like the paci...so this is her thing. Lucky for me she could care less about the colors...so she has 4 different prints total. ha.
My younger son has a blanket he still sleeps with. He's 11.
My oldest daughter can't sleep without her stuffed dog. She's 6
My youngest daughter totes her blankey around a la Linus style. It's the one we "lifted" from the hospital when she was born. She won't go anywhere in the house without it. She's 2.
The 15 yr. old has never slept with anything.
We live in MD, so holla when you get out here!
My oldest has a Carter's doggy that she adores. We have one that lives in the car for daycare and one that lives in her bed. I live in fear of losing the doggy, because that would just be bad.
I recently did an internet search for the doggy so that I could send a back-up to a friend whose son also uses him as a lovey and we only found one on eBay for a small fortune.
I'm trying hard to foster a lovey on the baby, but so far she doesn't seem to care one way or another. I'm pretty convinced that she thinks I'm her lovey... she likes to hold my hand against her face as she's falling asleep. Like that won't be hard to explain at sleepovers and at camp...
For Son No. 1 - there are a few that he needs to sleep with - Frosty the Snowman (he's my best friend mummy), two pajama tops and one pajama bottom that he wore when he was 18 months old (they're so soft and cuddly) and his black pillow - we have six black pillows throughout the house and if it's not his specific pillow with the floppy corner (it's perfect for holding and rubbing up against my face mum), then we have to through all the pillows to find it. He cannot sleep if he's missing any one of these items.
Liam has Berry Bear which is now starting to resemble Bear With Rabies - he started out great but Beary Bear looks like he's been on a one year bender with his mottled fur and dirt smudged face. Liam refuses to use a pillow - he uses Beary Bear - I'm not sure how he doesn't get some sort of huge kink in his neck.
