I'm pretty new here and still learning my way around. :) What are the rankings/rates? How can you get more rates or rate others?

I now know how to rate others. Is that the only way to move up through the ranks (by having others rate you)?

I have no idea how any of the ranking works. It's on my list of things I want to learn. If you find out can you let me know?
