Little do many know, who are not in the normal poker scene, that a pro poker play does not always win every time he sits down at the poker table.
You hear how some people make a living just gambling and not holding down a steady 9 to 5 job...heck who needs to work if you can gamble and churn out cash?
But playing poker on a consistent basis is a form of work...it takes patience and focus and responsibility of your bank roll. The hours of staring at different poker hands and analyzing the odds can sometimes be draining if you aren't on your "A" game...even a poker job has its down days...
The decisions I make at the poker table aren't made lightly. They are made with the goal of making the least possible mistakes as you can. Over time, making less mistakes than everyone else at the table will "bring me the money."
Sometimes though, you can have your bad days. No matter how many correct plays you made, the other guy just lucked out and though the odds favoured you, he got the card he needed and you lost.
But that's Poker!
Yesterday I was lucky it wasn't a down day, but it wasn't really an up day either.
I sat down in the Casino in the evening for 4.5 hours with $200 at a $1/2 NL Cash Texas Holdem Game...and I came away with...
$202.
I wasn't unhappy though...the cards that day weren't doing well for me.
I felt I played well though... raised at good moments, folded 2nd best hands, practiced more reading of player tells, managed to win enough hands to not be down, and win back the money I paid out in "blind" bets.
By the end of 4.5 hours, I was up $2 and had no desire to see if I could win more...I knew the tables would be there for another day....
