The Media and Real Estate

What the heck is going on with the media these days? They use TV, Radio, Newspapers and the Internet to share such morbid and negative news about the Real Estate Market! I have only one question here?

Aren't these the same people WE PAY to ADVERTISE our Inventory, our Business, and our Services?

Talk about "Biting The Hand That Feeds You" OUCH!! What's your thought, how do we compete against it?

I completely agree with you. I have been shouting from my soap box for months..."It's a buyer market!!" "There are great deals!" "C'mon buyers, get off the fence!". Nothing works...another agent in Gainesville sent a wonderful "Letter to the Editor" to our local paper and they ran it. And I thought that's a great idea. We plan on sending a letter to the editor each week...hoping for more news about the market.

And last night NAR had a commercial on prime time TV about it being a great time to buy, so call a local REALTOR. My national dues at work. It was good to see that!

Here is the message we need to get out to the buyers of America!

"If the weather man at the news station is wrong 30-50% of the time, then isn't it possible that others who work there and report for the news might be wrong too?"

They have the only job in the world where they get to be wrong, and still go back to work the next day! LOL! :-)

How do I handle it? I started a blog called "Tucson Real Estate in The News" I tear apart the media articles sometimes sentence by sentence to go beyond the sensational headlines and dig out the details.

Like the headline "Tucson Homes Languishing on the Market" Turns out way back on the last page, the home isn't even built yet. A flipper trying to sell it and hadn't for 9 month so this unbuilt home was "languishing" on the market.

The media constantly provides me material for blog posts. Readers come there after reading the headlines in the paper to see what I have to say about it and get the straight skinny.

You might want to consider starting a local blog or a new category dedicated to the RE Media coverage of your area and take the articles apart and show what is really in the details.

That's what I do.
