File storage recommendations

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to go beyond a single external hard drive for file storage, since the one I have decided to die. I may be able to recover the data, but at a great expense (which I will probably pay).

What do you use to store files and/or backup your photos? I've already been berated for not using DVD backups, so don't bother going there. :) Any reasonably priced solutions out there? I'm not too familiar with RAID or anything like that, so details would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance (and sorry for being gone so long!).

Here's the top of the line solution for backups at the moment if you are looking for simplicity and hard drive redundancy. (no I don't have shares in the company)

If a hard drive fails within the group you simply unplug it and slot in another drive. The device takes care of the drive rebuilding process with no intervention from you.

I forgot to mention that you shouldn't rely on DVDR backups as over time they prove to be increasingly unreliable.

Cheers, Jim.

Excellent, that's what I'm looking for. Something redundant but easy to understand. Thanks for the great info, I'll be checking it out today.
